Journey to Good

Fairgrounds Coffee & Tea Review

Chicago JourneyAnne Worth & Colleen Reilley BohmbachComment

For a new coffee shop option offering a variety of coffee roasters, kombucha on tap and a matcha bar near six corners in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood, stop by Fairgrounds Coffee & Tea located at 1620 N Milwaukee Ave.

We popped in before a yoga class, and arriving first, Anne received a full size kombucha on tap, on the house. We weren't sure if it was due to a small wait or being a new customer, but the gesture was appreciated. The kombucha was quite sweet, limited funk if any. Colleen stopped in a few days later, and found they offered her samples of their kombuchas on tap, and confirmed to our delight no sugar added (post fermentation) - it's pure fermented tea and delicious.

The menu also has gluten free and vegan options, coffee from local and national U.S. roasters (they even offer U.S. coffee flights), an impressive matcha selection, and their "hand-crafted elixirs". There are self-service water taps for customers - both sparkling and still. They offer free WiFi, and it's a good size shop with plenty of work tables for seating, as well as a small lounge area. We will definitely be back, and look forward to trying more menu items, such as the "Soul Detox" elixir and the Rishi Tea "Turmeric Tonic" currently on tap.

Overall, Fairgrounds is a fine addition to the neighborhood that is being infiltrated with so many chains. It's great to have a Wicker Park option that is partnering with local farms and roasters.
